This Wikiproject is about the Greek Anthology - Ελληνική Ανθολογία, the sum of poems and epigrams το of ancient classic, alexandrine and byzantine poets from the 7th century BC until the 10th - 14th century, which is sourced mainly from two manuscripts, the Palatine Anthology Παλατινή Ανθολογία and the Anthology of Planudes Ανθολογία του Πλανούδη. A user, mainly active in 2011, made significant contributions in Wikisource with epigrams and poets of the Greek Anthology. Today, another user the initial contributor of the present Wikiproject, set the foundation for the correct recording in Wikisource (Βικιθήκη) and here are instructions for this process, so that we do not forget what / how to do. The work is big, only the Palatine Anthology epigrams are approx. 3700 and thos of Planoudean Appendix 400, therefore, about 4100 epigrams. There are also more, bringing their number in more than 6.000 (while today in Βικιθήκη we have hunderds of epigrams). The work is therefore big and I believe that is is necessary to leave notes for those who will pick up the work later:

  • Each epigram must be in a separate page
  • Each translation of an epigram must be in (another) separate page
  • The epigrams in their original form must be included in:
    • the poet page
    • the relevant Anthology book (Palatine or Planoudean) (without translation)

Page name for each epigram and redirect

[Επεξεργασία]
  • The name of each epigram page will contain, for easy automation with previous and next epigram, the simplifies redirect containing only the book number and the epigram number:
    • the number (latin numeral) of the Anthology book (i.e. VI)
    • the number (arabic numeral) of the epigram (i.e. 102)

Example: Παλατινή Ανθολογία/VI/102

After its creation, we should move it to a new name which also contains the:

    • name of the author, exactly as it is written in the Anthologfyτο όνομα του συγγραφέα όπως εμφανίζεται στην Ανθολογία (π.χ. Φιλίππου)

Example: Παλατινή Ανθολογία/VI/102 Φιλίππου

How to include the epigram in the poet's page

[Επεξεργασία]

Write down a list of all poems / epigrams of the poet in the poet's page. Example for one epigram:

Explanation:

  • we have the page name of the poem / epigram Παλατινή Ανθολογία/VI/102 Φιλίππου
  • the appearing text is: Παλατινή Ανθολογία VI 102: Ῥοιὴν ξανθοχίτωνα γεραιόφλοιά τε σῦκα..., therefore:
    • Anthology (Palatine Anthology)
    • Book number in latin numerals (VI)
    • Epigram number (102)
    • The first words of the epigram, after ":" (: Ῥοιὴν ξανθοχίτωνα γεραιόφλοιά τε σῦκα...)

Explanation: If we would have written just the page name of the epigram Παλατινή Ανθολογία/VI/102 Φιλίππου, we would have a simple, boring list (since all Philip's epigrams would just have Philip's name), while now we see part of the title and we do not see again and again the poet name

If the epigrams available of the poet are few, we can include them, after the epigram list, using transclusion:

{{:Παλατινή Ανθολογία/VI/102 Φιλίππου}} (attention in the syntax, after the [[, there must be the ":" sign, before the name of the page)

so that we have all his epigrams, in full text. Obviously this does not make sense when the poet page is too long because of many epigrams.

Look at the result :

How to include the epigram in the corresponding Anthology book

[Επεξεργασία]

We start with a simple case of the Palatine Anthology Παλατινή Ανθολογία/VI:

We write the epigram (only the page name, no with inclusion) with the format:

Εξηγώ:

  • we have the name of the epigram page: Παλατινή Ανθολογία/VI/102 Φιλίππου
  • the appearing text is: 102 Φιλίππου (Θεσσαλονικέως): Ῥοιὴν ξανθοχίτωνα γεραιόφλοιά τε σῦκα, therefore:
    • number of epigram (102) (we do not need the Anthology name, neither the book numberm as they are common for all epigrams of the Anthology book)
    • the poet, as mentioned in the Anthologia (and more information iff necessary in a parenthesis)
    • the first words of the epigram after ":" (: Ῥοιὴν ξανθοχίτωνα γεραιόφλοιά τε σῦκα...)

Explanation: If we just wrote the page name of the poem Παλατινή Ανθολογία/VI/102 Φιλίππου, we would have a boring list (repeat of the "Anthologia Palatina/VI" in all of them), while now, we see the pet, as well as the first words of the epigram Here is an example:

Epigrams of the Appendix Planudea

[Επεξεργασία]

In order to write down the Ανθολογία του Πλανούδη (Anthology of Planoudes), we must follow the accepted names defined by the edition of Hieronymus de Bosch, Utrecht, 1795-1822, page 453 (also seeι index)

The simple form of the 16th book (attention: not of the Palatine, since the Palatine Anthology only had 15), but of the Greek Anthology (Ελληνική Ανθολογία):

with a redirect according to the edition of Hieronymus de Bosch

a format which gives us the possibility to systematically include them in Ανθολογία του Πλανούδη (Planudes' Anthology)

In conclusion

[Επεξεργασία]

I hope that I have helped so that there is a "to-do" list for me and whoever might be interested to help, explaining not only what to do, but also why. Since I am not Cephalas, nor have I the team of scribes who wrote the Palatine Anthology, neither am I Planoudes, the monk who never stopped writing, neither the systematic Jeronimus de Bosch, nor my favourite W.R. Patton, nor all those who have contributed with their monumental works, having completed them from start to finish on their own, or under their supervision, I hope that I have left instructions which can help the Community of WkiSource to complete the edition of the Epigrams in Βικιθήκη.

With by best wishes to those who will come after us, --FocalPoint (συζήτηση) 08:55, 19 Ιουλίου 2014 (UTC)[απάντηση]

Let's get started

[Επεξεργασία]

As a first step, please proceed to Κατηγορία:Επιγράμματα (Category:Epigrams), and process all pages not starting from:

  • Παλατινή Ανθολογία (Palatine Anthology)
  • Ελληνική Ανθολογία (Greek Anthology)

Take the pages of poets containing the epigrams and create a new page for each epigram as described above in detail. --FocalPoint (συζήτηση) 13:23, 19 July2014 (UTC)
